ABOUT
Our story begins in 1911, in the heart of the Sauerland region of Germany where Johann Wiebelhaus founded Wiebelhaus & Co. The root of our bespoke manufacturing company’s heritage.
FINELY FORGED IN
HERITAGE
At Wiebelhaus & Co. we invite you to experience the convergence of heritage and modernity. Each item or custom product we create is a testament to our commitment to quality, and a reflection of a journey that began over a century ago.
As we forge ahead into the future, we remain rooted in the values that have defined us since our inception: precision, passion, and the pursuit of perfection - one customer at a time.
OUR HISTORY
Johann's dedication and expertise as a blacksmith and craftsman set the foundation for a tradition of excellence that has endured for generations. Having worked himself as the company President until 1928, he then passed the leadership to his son, Franz. Under Franz's direction, Wiebelhaus & Co. flourished, becoming a desired namesake in the blade making and tooling industry.
Not immune to challenges of the Second World War, adversity struck home in 1945 when the original factory fell victim to Allied Bombings, where tragically, Franz himself lost his life while working at the factory during a tragic Allied air raid on the town of Meschede, which was targeted due to the regions significance in manufacturing for the German war effort.
OUR LEGACY
In the face of destruction, resilience prevailed. Franz's son, who shared his father’s namesake, then rose to the occasion, reopening the company after US occupation ended in 1947. With unwavering determination, he re-built the factory, and restored its operations, breathing new life into Wiebelhaus & Co.
Franz II then continued to lead the company until his retirement in 1986, leaving behind a rich legacy of renowned craftsmanship and determination to prevail.
Once nestled along the Ruhr River valley in North Rhine-Westphalia, Wiebelhaus & Co. was renowned for the meticulous craftsmanship of items such custom handmade axes, hatchets, hammers, and other finely forged tools.
OUR MISSION
In 2023, Johann's great-great-great grandson made the decision to take up the mantle, driven by a passion to honor the family's legacy, while at the same time embracing new, modern technologies Johann could have only dreamed of in the past.
We are now able to combine the time-honored tradition of tailoring custom, handmade finishing premium goods while also making use of twenty-first century, cutting-edge tooling technology such as 3D and UV printers, 4-axis CNC milling and laser engraving our goods for each individual customer.
This fusion of tradition and innovation allows us to offer truly bespoke, high-quality bespoke custom products that seamlessly blend the craftsmanship of yesteryear with the precision of today.
